Last chance to wish TEAM BeauSoleil goodbye, good luck
team, solar home leaving for Washington, D.C. for international competition

One last chance to see TEAM BeauSoleil before D.C. trip. Well-wishers got a view of UL Lafayette's TEAM BeauSoleil's solar home last week as the team prepared for its journey to the nation's capital. The team popped champagne corks during a Bon Voyage event at the United Way Complex and BeauSoleil home warehouse. The public has one more opportunity to wish the team well during a send off on Sept. 28 in front of Martin Hall. - UL Lafayette student leaders give to student project. SGA surprises Team BeauSoleil with $50K donation. Members of UL Lafayette’s Team BeauSoleil received a nice surprise Tuesday morning. The team stopped working on their solar home for what they thought was a $10,000 check presentation from the Student Government Association. Little did they know, they were about to receive a surprise worth five times that amount. “ We believe in this project and we believe that it adds value to our education,” said Dustin Domangue, SGA president. He along with his vice president and treasurer made the presentation(s) in the forms of three checks – the first two being part of the surprise. Read More...

The art says Louisiana: A benefit for the BeauSoleil Louisiana Solar Home.
An art exhibit and silent auction benefiting the BeauSoleil Louisiana Solar Home will close Saturday, Nov. 8 at 8 p.m. at the Jefferson Market Gallery. The work was selected by TEAM BeauSoleil to accompany the BeauSoleil Home to Washington D.C. for the 2009 Solar Decathlon. The exhibit is called “The Art Says Louisiana,” because it is representative of Louisiana's rich culture and traditions. The art will be hung and displayed in the home during the Solar Decathlon competition in Washington D.C., one year from now. Following the competition the art will be returned to the highest bidders from the silent auction. Read More...

Input sought for BeauSoleil home design ideas. On Friday, April 4 from noon to 1 p.m. several designs for the BeauSoleil Louisiana Solar Home will be open for review. The charrette will be held in Fletcher Hall, room 109, the large open studio space on the first floor closest to Girard Park. Input from the public is welcome. UL Lafayette’s BeauSoleil team was selected as one of only 20 teams from around the world (including Cornell, Darmstadt Germany, Madrid, Rice, Penn State, and Virginia Tech) to participate in the international design/build competition called the Solar Decathlon. Thirty-nine universities submitted proposals for selection. The Solar Decathlon is a competition for teams of university students that compete to design, build, and operate an attractive, effective, and energy-efficient solar powered house. Read More...
